5 Things That Make Me Happy

So lately I have been feeling a little down in the dumps. Here is a quick list of 5 things that make me happy or at least cheer me up a little bit.

5) Listening to the "Wicked" soundtrack....
I love this musical: the story, the original cast, the songs. No matter what mood I am in, blasting and singing along to most of these songs makes me happy. Especially "The Wizard and I" because as a Soprano II/Alto I can actually hit most of the notes. Listen to it here:

4) Watching this video:
I dare you not to smile

3) Listening to John Barrowman...
It is a shame that man is gay. He is gorgeous, sings like an angel, a wonderful actor, and just about the most handsome man in the universe. Just listening to his CD of hits from Broadway brightens my day. Here is his venison of "Sunset Boulevard":

2) Unblocking my writer's block....
I finally know where I want my Fate story to go next. I hate writer's block and brainstorming helped me plot out what to write next and what Fate will witness that changes her life forever. I am hoping to post an update on the Fate story soon, I hope people will enjoy it.

1) Snuggling/Spending time with hubby...
Even if it is just watching Buck Rogers on Netflix. He is my handsome, loving teddy bear and always cheers me up when I am feeling down. Tonight we are going to a concert (our first night in awhile) and I am looking forward to date night.

I hope everyone has a good Saturday. I will post some pictures tomorrow.

Rut and Such

Lately I feel like I am in a rut. Still unemployed, still working part-time retail, still struggling to keep organized, study, and better myself as a professional. I hate feeling this way. Lately I have been trying to get more active, work out more, etc... Yet, I lack motivation. I can not seem to find the mindset to do anything besides study, look for jobs, and housework. I have not even taken at lot of pictures lately. Today I decided "to hell with it" and looked up classes at a local vocational school. I decided I am going to take a belly-dancing class in March. Hubby approves, for obvious reasons, but I figure this might help me exercise and get out of my rut. I even got a fair picture of a bird enjoying our feeder and am going to share it here.

And other good news, I have an interview Thursday. It is for a tutoring position but anything thing would help right now. I am looking forward to getting out of my rut. Wish me luck. Enjoy the birds (excuse our compost bin in the background).

Two for One...

I apologize for my failing at blogging. This week was kind of hectic, with working, a phone interview, my class starting, and struggling to keep organized, I have hardly time to write/blog/relax. So basically things are beginning to get better. I have a phone interview for a tutoring job tomorrow. The job is 45 minutes away but at this point I will take anything I can get. I am excited about the possibility. I have also started looking for summer positions at camps or schools. Tuesday my class started, seems like it will be a good one. It is all about technology in the classroom, how to take the advantage and use it to help teach. Also the class is about becoming more tech savvy, which I want to do, and how to apply that savvy to your lessons. But the most fun part of Tuesday was meeting some new pals.

So I was sitting there eating my lunch, watching the snow fall. I had gotten to the college early due the weather and was basically bored. My daydreaming was interrupted by a soft "Hello?". I looked up to see a college girl with thick glasses and a Terry Goodkind book under her arm. She explained how her friend had saw me sitting alone and wanted to know if I wanted to join them. I accepted and was soon quietly sitting amongst a large group of my own people: nerds. I knew they were nerds because A) they were playing WoW on their laptops and talking about D&D B) one guy had the same dice shirt that one of my hubby's friends owns. C) When I mentioned hubby was going to eventually run a Firefly themed D&D game, one of the girls desperately wanted to join and we spent the rest of time before my class discussing a certain character we both love and we both own the DVD set of Firefly. It was a lot of fun and I have learned that no matter what your age or why you are still you're college at that age, no matter what nerds are friendly and we will always accept fellow nerds in our group. :-)

Anyways, now for the poetry part of this double entry. This is an older poem of mine, written in college as part of a free write exercise. It is simply called "Babble"

I listen to the echoes of the falling rain,
light my candle and think of him again.
I am tired of this endless chase,
I am sick of satin and lace.
Lost in a mound of dirt,
hidden in a world of hurt.
Push my hair behind my ears,
looking back on the haunted years.
I listen to Ani on my headphones,
sitting amongst the gravel and stones.
I am asleep at the wheel,
I am staying with this deal.
Rambling words across your skin,
shaking beneath my grin.
I am listening to the silence of the night,
smoke curls around and floats towards the light.

Kind of dark, I know. But this was written during my moody, college years. Any ways, I have a photo picked out for tomorrow. Have a good one.

Photo Friday "My Backyard"

My hubby and I are lucky to have our backyard adjacent to a nature preserve. The good things about this is that no one can build a house directly behind us and we get lots of birds and animals that visit. We mostly miss the animals because they visit so early (and eat his raspberry bushes) but we always see their tracks. For today's photos, I took three. One of the pond that is a part of the nature preserve. One of some deer tracks. And one of a unique "natural" feature we discovered one day while out for a walk. Hope you enjoy them. Happy Friday!

So I have already broken my resolution to write/blog more. I was going to do a general entry on Monday, but I was busy driving around the state, trying to get my retirement/unemployment problems sorted of. So...sorry. Anyways, since today is Wednesday, I decided to share some of my older poems. I have sort of hit a wall in the "Fate" story. I need a day to brainstorm and plot out what happens next. I am going to include some pictures that seem to fit with these two poems.

The first poem is titled "Petals from my Mind". It is about my passion for writing.

Petals from my mind,
drift across the empty page.
Thoughts turn into ink,
dancing in the moonlight.
My muse whispers in my ear,
telling me what to write.
Love,happiness, experience, and hope,
they are themes of my verse.
Love rules my heart,
Happiness makes me kind,
Experience makes me wise,
Hope keeps me young.
Petals from my mind,
frozen on the page.
Ink that holds thoughts forever,
as the dance sadly ends.

The second poem is called "A Rose". I wrote this at 2am on night, not long after finishing Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series. For those who have never read the series, just read "The Gunslinger".

A single blood red rose
Its ruby lips caressing a liquid sky
Its tear swells and falls
Shattering on the earth
Becomes the stars
Sprawled across the sky
Becomes the wind dancing
Through the treetops
Sliding down the trunks
And racing barefoot across the grass
Becomes the seed
Which sprouts and grows
Into a universe
Within a single
Blood Red

(Please note I did not take the second picture. It is from a website).
Thanks for reading my poetry.

Ten Things to do in 20-10

Alright it is time again for Top Ten Tuesday. Today's topic (hehe alliteration) is about the top ten things I want to really focus on for the new year. So without further ado, here is my Ten Things to do in 20-10.

10) Learn how to take better pictures.
I love my camera, but I really want to improve my photo taking skills. I am pretty good at nature and people pictures, but my macro shots need improving. I would also like to learn more about my camera's special features and how to use them to my advantage. To entertain my readers, I am including a picture of a friend's 6.5 month little girl.

9) Take one "fun" class
This goal goes along with number 10. I really want to take a fun course, maybe a weekend type deal. I would like to learn more about Photoshop, how to use the different features. Or even take a watercolor course or maybe do some pottery. Some class that does not have to do with my masters degree. Something just for me.

8) Eat Healthier
Hubby and I both have the bad habit of snacking too much on unhealthy things like chips & salsa or crackers & cheese. I really need to work on eating more fruits and veggies. Something we both need to do is make and eat healthier meals. This will help with my cholesterol issue and his weight.

7) Work Out More
This follows along the same lines of number 8. I lost ten pounds before my wedding in June, gained back seven, and some how over the holidays lost three pounds. I want to get back to my wedding weight and tone my muscles. I want to prepare for summer a.k.a bathing suit season. We have an elicitation and I have one month free at a gym, I just need to do it.

6) Write/Blog more
I really like the story I am working on and want to dedicate more time and effort to it. I also want to post here more often. I am thinking of doing a list/general entry each Monday, writing entry each Wednesday, and a photo Friday. That way at least I am posting three times a week.

5) Do One Fun Thing...
with hubby. We hardly go on a "date" any to time restrictions/money restrictions. I figure even if it is just going to a movie, we could do something just the two of us every other week or something.

4) Have People Over More
Even if it is just one couple, I would like to see my friends more often. Another friend of mine had a great idea of inviting two other couples over for a potluck dinner/game night. The host would make the main course and the other couples could bring appetizers and desserts. I am thinking of doing this sometime in Feb.

3) Study, Study, Study
Sadly I did not pass my Foundations of Reading MTEL. I have the General Curriculum one approaching in March. I have mostly studied here and there, but don't really have a set schedule. I need to study more to pass this one, and then start re-studying for the reading MTEL. I hope to have all the test passed by the summer.

2) Be Generous/Volunteer
I wish I had more money/stuff so I could donate to those in need. Instead I am thinking for looking for volunteer opportunities in the spring/summer. My parents always taught me to help those in need and I want to improve my karma, so to speak. Even if it is something small, like helping at a local nursing home or pet shelter, it would help me feel like I am making a small difference in the world.

I am sick of being unemployed. I am a creative person, hard working, organized, and good with children. I have several opportunities at my feet for a full time position. Most schools just got back from winter vacation, so I am hoping to here something soon. If not, I will try a different avenue; like working in an office or something to that affect, while still working at my masters/licenses. Come Feb. I am going to start looking for summer jobs at schools/camps so I can have more education/academic experience on my resume. I am really hoping I find something soon. Else I am not sure what I will do....

Okay that was a long here is another cute baby picture.

She is such a cutie. Good luck in the new year.

New Year...New Look

Awhile ago my mother-in-law gave me a gift certificate to a nearby hair salon. Tired of my old hair style I made appointment for the 31st of Jan and happily went. I told the stylist to trim up the split ends and for a style that complimented my face/features.

So without further ado... I present my new do.

Happy 20-10!
